SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Big Bad Wolfe Run has become an early fall tradition for the Columbus running and walking community. While the team at Columbus Running Company is fully committed to hosting an in-person event at Wolfe Park on September 27 at this time, we are carefully monitoring developments surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Should it be in the best interest of the community to not hold the event at Wolfe Park or if large gatherings are still not recommended, the Big Bad Wolfe Run will change to a “virtual run/walk”.

A virtual run/walk means that all registered participants will still receive their hoodie, medal, and custom race bib. Shipping costs would be covered with your initial registration payment, no additional costs will be required. Participants will be encouraged, but not required, to run or walk the Big Bad Wolfe Run during a two-week period starting on September 27. A virtual event further means that unfortunately, we would not have race timing or any of the great in-person event festivities we typically enjoy. However, if the event switches to virtual, runners and walkers would still be able to connect in many other ways. Everyone would be encouraged to participate wherever they would like (running or walking on bike paths, in neighborhoods, wherever running and walking is safely permitted at the time) and would furthermore be encouraged to submit their times (details would be sent on event day) and post photos across social media outlets. As race day approaches, we will continue to monitor CDC, federal, state, and local guidelines to determine the best approach so that everyone can participate in a safe and healthy manner.

The decision as to whether to hold the event in-person or change to a virtual run/walk will be made by August 10. In the event of any change, any/all registrants would be contacted and this page would be updated. Should you register and decide that you are no longer interested in participating as the event approaches, refunds of registration fees can be provided minus processing fees associated with the transaction.

Description

About this Race

Whether you're getting ready for that Fall full or half marathon or looking to test your summer training in a 5K, the Big Bad Wolfe Run is for you. We have race options of 5K, 10 miles, and 20 miles. Join us on September 27th for something great, the Big Bad Wolfe Run. This race is all on the paved asphalt Alum Creek Trail, it is not a trail run.

We're going to deliver great swag, finisher medals for everyone, and a fun time. You're going to deliver the memories. Band together with the rest of the villagers and come run with us! 

As you take part in the Big Bad Wolfe Run, you'll be joining in the tradition of keeping the big bad wolf at bay. Just as the folks of Central Ohio have done for generations, kick off your Fall by wearing red and hitting the paths in memory of Little Red.

Swag

A lifestyle zip-up hooded sweatshirt (not tech material) will be included as part of your registration fee. Register now to guarantee yourself some awesome swag! We're back working with a local vendor in 2020 to ensure that your hoodie will be here for you ON TIME! 

All 20 Miler, 10 Miler, and 5K finishers will receive a sweet Big Bad Wolfe Run finisher medal. All Kid's Run participants will receive a ribbon.

Participant caps

We comply with all safety regulations set forth by the City of Columbus. The total number of registrants combined (20M, 10M, 5K) will not exceed 500, and within that limit we cap the 5K at 100 registrants. Our Kid's Run is capped at 25 registrants.

Need to switch your event after you've registered?

You can do that! Whether you want to jump up or down in distance, it's important for both safety and awards purposes to be sure you're registered for the proper event you'll do on race day. Simply follow the instructions here and you'll be all set! Please note: this event transfer service is available through 11:59pm on September 26.

Early Packet Pickup

Race packets may be picked up early at Columbus Running Company's Dublin location (6465 Perimeter Dr) on Friday, September 25 (10AM-8PM) and Saturday, September 26 (10AM-6PM). You may also pick up your packets at the race beginning at 7:00 am on September 27.

Parking

There is parking at Wolfe Park, across Broad St at St Charles Preparatory School, and a bit south at Academy Park. For additional parking information, please view the parking map (subject to change, final details will be provided during race week).

Race Day Registration

The Big Bad Wolfe Run will have race day registration as long as spots are available. This event does cap at 500 registrants. There will be no waitlist.

Awards

Each of the 20 Mile, 10 Mile, and 5K races will be chip timed, and all finishers will receive an awesome medal (Kid's Run participants will receive a ribbon) to honor their accomplishment. Top finishers and age group winners in each event will receive special awards and recognition.

Create a Team

Have fun with a group and participate as a team. Each team member must individually pre-register under their team name. The first person signing up for a team will create the team during the registration process and all others signing up for that team will select their team name during their registration. For help with team registration and/or creation, please view the help topic by clicking here.

Participant Guidelines

Running with a stroller is absolutely fine. At the race start, please line up at the back of the pack for safety reasons. Running with dogs is prohibited: as is bicycling, inline skating, scooters, hoverboards, etc. Walking and running only in this event. 

What time does the course close?

The course will remain open for all events for 4 hours and 35 minutes. Most notably, this means that participants in the 20-mile event must maintain a 13:44/mile pace. We match the maximum allowable pace that the Nationwide Children's Columbus Marathon maintains.
